Re: the CSL style question, am not exactly sure the background here, but it seems to me that for examples like open journals, the best approach is to choose an existing, widely used, style (Chicago, APA, etc.), and then create a dependent style. In that case, there's no need to do any CSL editing per se; you just create a name and a URI, and upload it.

Thanks Dorothea,

ICE uses OpenOffice.org as well as Word and if we design a template in one it can easily be transferred to the other so your offer of help is very welcome. At the moment we are having some trouble with the transition to OOo3 - they BROKE some of the APIs that used to work. Once we have that sorted out I'll get back to you.

As soon as the Mason lawsuit made the news, the BibApp crew decided we weren't going to touch EndNote with a ten-foot pole. YMMV.

Authors, by and large, will not use templates except when forced to, and when they do use them, they don't always use them right. That means that authors aren't your audience -- editors are. I just had a talk with a journal editor a few weeks ago who is looking at a Word-based workflow; it wouldn't be at all hard to sell her on a template solution, especially if it offers HTML and PDF for the same amount of work as PDF.

I unfortunately don't have access to a late-model version of Microsoft Word, or I'd offer to help with the templates. If you want to do something with OpenOffice I can and will lend a hand, though.
